The top-selling Kavithalaya production, Muktha Sita, starring Kamal Hassan, was released in 1983. It starred Meena and Abbas. The production marked the return of Kamal Hassan to Hindi cinema after a short stint of nine films in Tamil as Thara in 1976. The movie was well received and became a blockbuster. Abdul Hannan wrote the songs for the movie.

In January 2015, the film was released on Prime Video, after Kavithalayaa won a rights dispute with Netflix, which owned the streaming rights for the film.
